soliciting information for potential sources for the purpose of
remanufacture of a government-owned surface grinder. The machine to be
remanufactured is a Mattison traveling column type surface grinder
located in Building 1225, the Advanced Machining Development
Laboratory. The machine is equipped with a 54 inch X 14 inch machine
table and a 48 inch X 14 inch electro-magnetic chuck which operates
from a DC generator. The machine serial number is 14624. The machine
spindle has a CTX type 15 horsepower alternating current (AC) electric
motor, frame number 1232S. The work required shall be accomplished at
the contractors facility and shall include but not be limited to the
following. Complete disassembly, cleaning and inspection. All ways
shall be ground and/or scraped. All bearings shall be replaced
throughout the machine with O. E. M. (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
quality bearings. The complete hydraulic system shall be disassembled,
cleaned, inspected and remanufactured. The existing lubrication system
shall be replaced with an automatic lubrication system to lubricate
the wheel and slide column assembly, and the table. Rebuild the
existing coolant system to meet or exceed O. E. M. specifications.
Replace all machine wiring and rewire machine to NFPA 79 Electrical
Standards. Rebuild the grinding wheel spindle to meet or exceed O. E.
M. specifications which shall include, inspection of the spindle motor
windings and leads. If found to be satisfactory the motor shall be
cleaned, re-insulated and baked. Inspect the magnetic chuck for
defects, if any are found the contracting officer shall be notified and
a resolution will be reached in 10 working days. The direct current
(DC) motor/generator which operates the chuck shall be disassembled and
the windings and leads shall be inspected. If found to be satisfactory
the motor shall be cleaned, re-insulated and baked. No solicitation
exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a
solicitation is released it will be synopsized in the CBD and on the
NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors
responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any
solicitation or synopsis. Vendors having the capabilities necessary to
meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit
appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references.
