The National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID),has a need for Technical Support Services for a basic twelve (12) month period and four (4) option years. Specifically, the Division of Intramural Research program of the Office of the Clinical Director of the NIAID has a requirement for Pathology Services from an organization having the capability of and being responsible to prepare tissues, cells grown in suspension and cells grown attached to substrates for light and electron microscopy analysis. The Contractor shall perform morphologic studies and interpretation at gross, light microscopic and ultrastructural levels of HIV-infected tissue. Light microscopic preparation shall include paraffin and plastic embedding which shall be followed by sectioning and staining with a wide variety of histochemical stains. The Contractor shall be available for regular discussions and interpretation of findings. The laboratory shall meet safety standards as required by the College of American Pathologists and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Contractor's equipment shall include at least one transmission and one scanning electron microscope, photomicroscope, and ultramicrotome. It is anticipated that this will be a Full and Open competition. The issuance of the Solicitation Document should be on or about November 3, 1998, with responses due on or about December 4, 1998.
