Contracts Office, Contract@nist.gov. The National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source
basis with J. Pedulla and Associates, Silver Spring, Maryland, for
Material Technology Development Services. This is a research project
investigating ultra thin film growth and developing x-ray optical
components utilizing techniques including dual ion beam deposition and
grazing incidence x-ray reflectometry. The first component of this
research project is to expand the past investigations of materials,
thin films, interfaces, and multilayer x-ray optic components into
areas of laterally graded and curved x-ray focusing devices. A second
component is the investigation of magnetic materials in the context of
spin valve configurations. The third component of this project is to
service the needs of clients requiring reference and research thin
films. The period of performance for this project is one year from date
of award with two additional one year option periods. The F.O.B. point
is Gaithersburg, Maryland. This is a sole source requirement with J.
Pedulla and Associates because he has been associated with the
development and operation of an Ion-Beam Sputtering and Atomic Milling
Facility at NIST since it's development and this is a continuation of
that project. He has a strong background in materials science, and
experience in materials development technology services. NIST
anticipates an award of an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity type
of contract. An estimate of 1200 man hours per year is required by the
contractor to perform this project. See Numbered Note 22 and Numbered
Note 26. Posted 10/19/98 (W-SN263183). (0292) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19981021\A-0005.SOL)
