Acquisition Branch (Washington), 6525 Belcrest Road, Room 1170,
Hyattsville, MD 20782 B -- DUAL ENERGY X-RAY ABSORPTIOMETRY (DXA) BODY COMPOSITION AND
DENSITOMETRY QUALITY CONTROL CENTER FOR NHANES IV TOTAL BODY SCANS
ACQUIRED WITH HOLOGIC QDR 4500A FAN- BEAM INSTRUMENTS SOL 200-99-7002
POC Contact Point, Elisa Hillman, 301/436-7007, Contracting Officer,
Ronald L. Atherholt This requirement is for the acquisition of scan
image analysis and review of total body DXA scan data, including
quality control data. Scans will be analyzed for total and regional
bone mineral and soft tissue composition. The period of performance
will be one year for the basic contract with a possible additional
6-one-year option periods. The contractor will provide: personnel with
expertise in scan image analysis and in quality control evaluation of
total body fan-beam DXA scan data collected on a Hologic QDR 4500A
fan-beam densitometer from sample persons and quality control data from
standardized calibration phantoms; and standardized criteria for
evaluating these data. Personnel with expertise in using DXA to measure
bone mineral and soft tissue will review scans to ensure that
acquisition by NHANES IV field staff and analysis by the contractor's
scan analysts are appropriate. The contractor will use the same
standardized approach for evaluating these data for all seven years of
the contract. If changes in either the technology for collecting and
analyzing DXA total body scan data or in the criteria for evaluating
the data occur, the contractor will perform studies to assess the
comparability of the original and revised methods using a Hologic QDR
4500A fan-beam bone densitometer installed with 8.24a:3 version
software at the contractor's institution. In addition, if more than one
person is used to perform image analysis or expert review of the total
body scan data, the contractor will provide estimates of inter-reader
reliability. The estimated release date for this RFP is approximately
15 days after this publication and closing will be approximately 30
days after issue date. Requests for copies must be submitted in writing
and addressed to Ms. Elisa Hillman, reference RFP Number 200-99-7002.
