COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 22,1998 PSA#2206SP -- HIGHLY ACCURATE, LOW-FREQUENCY, RF-INDUCED CURRENT DOSIMETER
HIGHLY ACCURATE, LOW-FREQUENCY, RF-INDUCED CURRENT DOSIMETER. The
Goddard Space Flight Center seeks qualified companies for further
development and commercialization of a NASA/Florida International
University (FIU) nonferrous electromagnetic dosimeter technology. This
technology provides a direct, noninvasive measurement of currents
induced in a human body by nonionizing electromagnetic radiation. Worn
around the arm or leg, the lightweight device provides accurate
readings in any body orientation without significantly perturbing the
field. Applicable to a majority of radio frequency (RF) applications,
this low-cost technology can ensure that radiation levels are within
permissible exposure limits and can minimize the risk of pain, burns,
and shocks. With a wide frequency response (~100 kHz to ~100 MHz), this
technology could be used for many broadcasting, military,
manufacturing, research, and biomedical applications. A Technology
Commercialization Briefing will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on
November 18, 1998 to provide interested companies with detailed
information on the technology and the process that will be followed to
establish partnership agreements and/or licenses for
commercialization. Companies interested in obtaining further
information on this technology and the November 18 briefing can do so
electronically at URL: http://www.rti.org/technology/TO-dosimeter.html
or may contact NASA Technology Applications Team, RTI, Mark D.
