A -- COMMERCIALIZATION OF TECHNOLOGIES RELATED TO THE PRODUCTION AND UTILIZATION OF CONDUCTIVE POLYMERS SOL CITPO-98-155 DUE 110698 POC Laura Barber, Licensing Executive, Civilian & Industrial Technology Program Office, Mail Stop C334, P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545, Tel: (505)667-9266, Fax: (505)665-6127, E-Mail: ljbb@lanl.gov!! E-MAIL: Laura Barber, ljbb@lanl.gov. The University of California, which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy (DOE), seeks a qualified company to commercialize a portfolio of technologies related to the production and utilization of conductive polymers for a wide variety of applications. Continued cooperative research and development with LANL will be required for the successful commercialization of this technology portfolio. It is expected that frequent interaction with LANL technical staff will be required. Therefore, close proximity to LANL will be advantageous in facilitating this cooperative effort. Conductive polymers combine many of the desirable properties of metals and plastics in one entity. Polyanilines and polypyrrole are the most commonly used conductive polymers because of their relatively superior stability. Polyaniline has been the favored conductive material because of its environmental stability and its processibility into films, fibers, and coatings. Los Alamos National Laboratory has developed a process whereby polyaniline can be made into electrically conducting fibers useful for making anti-static textiles, membranes and hollow fibers. Suggested applications for this portfolio of technologies include the production of corrosion inhibitors and the production of membranes and hollow fibers for separations, among many others. The proposed intellectual property portfolio includes: 1) the conventional processing of polyaniline to create electrically conducting fibers, and 2) the generation of polyaniline membranes having controlled pore size which demonstrate simultaneous high throughput and high selectivity for gas permeation. An industrial partner is being sought to enter into an exclusive or non-exclusive licensing agreement to commercialize this important technology. Specifically, Los Alamos seeks a company with the appropriate managerial, financial, and technical resources capable of supporting and implementing a commercial license from Los Alamos National Laboratory and transferring this technology outside of the Laboratory. Those companies interested in pursuing this opportunity should respond with a Letter of Interest that must include a brief description of the following: (1) the organization's business, business goals, and a description of the Board of Directors, Officers, and technical staff; (2) the business' motivation for participating in this opportunity; (3) a strong and successful background in polymer science and molecular diffusion; (4) technical expertise related to conductive polymers; (5) manufacturing capabilities and experience relevant to the manufacture of conductive polymers; (6) the company's marketing capabilities relevant to generating sales for this technology; and (7) the company's financial resources available for this project (include documentation which demonstrates these resources, such as commitment letters for financing from banks or venture capitalists, etc.). The Letter of Interest must address this information in sufficient detail, however, or the organization will not be considered as a potential licensee. The Letter of Interest must be received by close of business (5pm MST) November 6, 1998. Qualified respondents (those who have submitted a Letter of Interest within the time allotted and provided sufficient information to evaluate their ability to commercialize this portfolio) will be contacted by a Los Alamos representative. At that time, potential licensees are required to submit a comprehensive business plan. Please send Letters of Interest to the attention of: Laura Barber, Licensing Executive, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Civilian and Industrial Technologies Program Office, P.O. Box 1663, MS C334. For further information, call Ms. Barber at 505-667-9266 or e-mail, ljbb@lanl.gov. Posted 10/26/98 (W-SN265494). (0299)
