A -- A- RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT -- TEXT PLACEMENT SYSTEM (TPS) SOL NMA202-99-R-1007 POC Tamara J. Verdon, Contracting Officer, (301) 227-7824, verdont@nima.mil The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) intends to negotiate a contract on a sole source basis with MapText Inc, Cranberry, NJ., for the development, test, evaluation, and delivery of a Text Placement System (TPS) to support automatic text placement for NIMA's map and chart products. This contract is a follow-on contract to extend the capabilities of a prototype system developed under contract DMA100-96-C-5141 that demonstrated the automatic placement of text. MapText is the only contractor with the specialized expertise and familiarity with the prototype system developed under the prvious contract to continue development a text placement systems that meets NIMA's requirements while ensuring development and cost schedules are maintained. Authority for this sole source procurement is 10 USC 2304(c)(1) and FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(iii). Firms that recognize that they can perform the required services described above are encouraged to identify themselves, give written notification, and provide supporting evidence to the Contracting Officer within fifteen (15) calendar days after the date of publication of this synopsis. The final determination by the Government not to open this requirement to competition based on any information provided is solely within the discretion of the Government.
