This is a notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Rheinmetall W & M GmbH, Unterlusse, Federal Republice of Germany. This action has been approved under a Justification and Approval. No other sources are known to possess the cabability and facilities to complete the requirement and schedule to provide a quantity of new 120mm long tank main gun barrel for the M1A2 tank for the purpose of performance evaluation, demonstration and testing. Questions concerning this requirement may be directed to the Point of Contact. The approximate issue date will be October 29, 1998. The anticipated contract award date will be November 13, 1998. All requests for information must be either by written letter, fax (973) 724-3340, or email to ldeara@pica.army.mil, directly from the requester, no telephone requests will be accepted. All responsible sources solicted may submit a proposal which shall be considered. The sole source intent is under the authority of 10 U.S.C., 2304(c)(1); Justifiation is that supplies required are available from only one, or a limited number, of responsible source(s) and no other type of supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Note 22 applies. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of FAR 6.302. Interested parties may identy their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within forty-five days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solelyl within the discretion of the government.
