shall furnish and deliver to Redwood National Park, two (2) FRP foot
and horse bridges with a clear span of 80' and a clear walkway width of
5', and no overhead obstructions over the walkway. The supplier shall
provide certification prior to delivery that the bridge design has been
prepared and has been stamped by a Licensed Civil or Structural
Engineer. Wood decking will be provided and installed by the National
Park Service. FOOTING DESIGN 1. The supplier shall provide footing
requirements, footing loads and dimensional details for the National
Park Service to use in designing footings. Engineering design and
construction of the bridge supporting foundations will be the
responsibility of the National Park Service. ENGINEERING Specifications
1. The bridges will be used exclusively for foot and horse traffic, and
shall be designed for a minimum live load capacity of 60 pounds per
square foot on the decking. Wind loading shall be a minimum of 20
pounds per square foot on the open structure. Thesupplier shall contact
National Park Service to develop appropriate additional loading for
snow on the structure prior to completing the engineering certification
submittal. 2. The supplier shall provide to the NPS required sizes and
thickness of wood decking. The NPS will supply and install redwood
decking from in-Park sources. 3. Allowable Design Stresses: Factors of
safety used by contractor in the design of FRP support structures
shall be as follows: (based on ultimate strength of the FRP material)
Tension -- 2.5 Compression -- 2.5 Shear -- 3.0 Bending -- 3.0 Bearing
-- 3.0 Deflection: Live Load = L/360 Dead Load & Live Load = L/180
Vibration Requirements: Minimum frequency of the system shall not be
less than 5 cylces/second. Minimum material specifications (ultimate
strength and Young's Modulus) are as follows: Tension -- 20,000 psi
Compression -- 20,000 psi Shear -- 5,500 psi Bending -- 20,000 psi
Young's Module (E) -- 2,500,000 psi MATERIALS All metal hardware to be
treated with hot dipped galvanizing or similar treatments for
installation in extremely wet and marine environments. Contractor shall
provide all materials necessary for complete assembly of bridges,
including all fasteners. Bridges shall be fabricated from high strength
E-glass and isopthalic polyester resin. Weathering and ultraviolet
light protection shall be provided by addition of a Nexus Veil to the
laminate construction. DELIVERY AND ERECTION The placement of the
bridge will be the responsibility of the NPS. The Contractor shall
provide complete written procedures and instructions for assembling and
installing the bridges to the NPS at the time of delivery. Posted
