The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) intends to issue a solicitation to EG&G Management Systems, Inc., under existing contract DNA001-94-C-0189 to extend the contract from its current end date of 30 Nov 98 to 24 Jan 99, less than 60-day extension. Under this extension, EG&G will perform technical training for and maintenance and refurbishment of the ARES electromagnetic pulse (EMP) simulator located at Kirtland AF Base, NM, along with assessment of repair requirements for a large leaking oil box. This short term extension is a major reduction to the level of effort currently being provided under the existing contract and will "fill the gap" while a follow-on competitive procurement is being processed. Based on EG&G's extensive experience with the ARES facility, DSWA believes EG&G is the only contractor capable of providing the required interim-period support within time and budgetary constraints.
