The contractor shall decontaminate and recycle elemental lead scrap with radioactive surface contamination. The contractor shall perform this work in a manner, which maximizes the volume of lead recycled and minimizes the amount of radioactive waste and mixed (waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive constituents). For equipment, which contains depleted uranium, the depleted uranium will be disposed of as radioactive waste at a burial site. Component weight (including that of the shipping container) is approximately 11,000 lbs. The shipping container is approximately 80" long x 78" wide x 75" high. All hazardous waste, radioactive waste and mixed waste shall be handled according to all laws, ordinances, and regulations of federal, state and municipal regulations at the contractor's facility and disposed of appropriately. The contractor shall pick up the equipment from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA, transport the equipment by radiologically decontaminating the component, provide further transportation to a licensed disposal facility as required and supply standard and specialty containers meeting current Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications.
