Schaetzle/Pkwre/[937]257-4774 The Air Force Independent Research and Development (IR&D) Program in collaboration with the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) is seeking to identify research and development capabilities and pre-commercial technologies in the area of advanced informationretrieval technologies. This announcement is not a Request for Proposal. However, depending upon needs and capabilities identified, the Air Force IR&D Program and/or OAI may elect to pursue technology development and commercialization and secure required funding. The sources sought include research capabilities and technologies in areas including but not limited to advanced search technologies resident on user systems or implemented as autonomous agents. The technology would augment existing information sources such as Intranet- accessible databases, vendor databases, open literature, subscription databases, and other Internet-accessible sites covering domains such as engineering properties of aerospace materials, specialized testing facilities, patent and literature searches, and industry information. Improved information retrieval capabilities would enable information retrieval more responsive to user needs, with information not relevant to the user's ongoing interests and specific tasks automatically filtered out. Search success will be measured by the time spent by the user on the search task, the proportion of time spent reviewing relevant possibilities, versus those that do not meet user-specific criteria, and the completeness of search (proportion of sites searched out of total relevant sites). Researchers, institutions, and technology licensors are invited to provide complete information on capabilities, prior work, and terms as may be appropriate.
