following is a Request for Information (RFI) only and does not
constitute a Request for Proposal. The Social Security Administration
is seeking the services of small business private investigation firms
to perform field investigations along the U.S. border with Mexico in
Texas and New Mexico. Services would be performed in the areas serviced
by the Social Security offices in Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen,
Laredo, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Presidio, and El Paso, Texas and Las
Cruces, New Mexico. Field investigations may involve some or all of the
following activities: interviews with Social Security and Supplemental
Security Income claimants and beneficiaries at their places of
residence and/or business; observations of living circumstances and
place of abode; interviews with third parties who may have knowledge
pertinent to establishing an individual's eligibility to or payment
amount of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits;
observation of work performance of individuals alleged to be retired or
disabled; and collection of documentary evidence from public sources.
Individuals performing field investigations for these purposes must be
licensed as private investigators, bonded, and proficient in both
conversational English and Spanish. Interested firms should submit
information in writing as to their technical capabilities. Submit no
more than two pages of information by November 30, 1998 to Social
