Reducing the Operation & Support Costs for the Abrams Tank Propulsion
System. PM-Abrams is seeking information from potential sources of high
power combat vehicle propulsion systems for a potential future
procurement to reduce the Operation & Support Costs of the Abrams
Propulsion System, primarily the AGT1500 turbine engine. There are
approximately 11,000 engines in inventory and an average of 700 engines
are available for retrofit each year. A net savings (the expected
operating and support costs minus any investment cost) of at least 10%
must be achieved for the engine over a 30 year life cycle starting in
FY01. Potential sources may propose alternative solutions that range
from but are not limited to new maintenance methods, upgrades of the
current engine and or propulsion system, or a new integrated engine
and/or propulsion system. Please respond to the attached questionnaire
and the supplemental requirement documents. We prefer that your
response does not include any proprietary data; but if proprietary data
is provided, it must be marked in accordance with DFAR 252.227-7013. No
reimbursements will be made for any costs connected with providing this
information. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT
BY THE GOVERNMENT TO AWARD A CONTRACT, NOR IS IT A REQUEST FOR
PROPOSAL. Send the requested information to Program Executive Office,
