Technology Developers and Equipment Manufacturers are being solicited
to participate in the following opportunity: The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) and Concurrent Technologies Corporation
(CTC)have entered into a partnership to conduct verification testing
under EPA's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program for
Metal Finishing. The fundamental objective is to perform objective
third-party verification of the ability of various technologies to
reduce or eliminate multimedia emissions from operations performed by
the metal finishing industry. Developers and vendors of metal finishing
pollution prevention equipment with innovative treatment technologies
are encouraged to participate in this national performance verification
program. If your environmental technology is commercially ready or at
a sufficient scale and state of development such that performance
claims can be established and evaluated, this program may be of interest
to you. Of particular interest to the ETV-Metal Finishing Program is
the pollution prevention area; i.e. technologies pertaining to
in-process recovery, recycling, and treatment to reduce or eliminate
air and wastewater pollutants. Pollution prevention is defined as any
practice that eliminates or reduces the amount of toxicity of a
hazardous pollutant. Technologies must be near or already at full-scal
operation, exhibit technical success, be environmentally benefical,
and show existing or potential market acceptance. Technologies meeting
these criteria will be reviewed by the EPA and CTC and recommended to
a Stakeholder Group which wil make the selections for verification
testing. EPA, CTC, and the Stakeholder Group, in concert with the
technology provider, will establish criteria for evaluating the
technology. The pollution prevention technology will be installed in
participating metal finishing shops and verification testing will be
performed by an objective third-party. Verification testing costs in
this first phase of the program are shared by program funding. Results
of the testing will documented in reports and made available to
interested parties including metal finishers and the public.
verification reports are published on the EPA ETV Internet Site at
www.epa.gov/etv and provide potential customers, investors, and
environmental regulatory agencies with and independent assessment of a
technology's performance. To participate in the Environmental
Technology Verification for Metal Finishing Program, contact James E.
