70 -- COMMERCIAL VEHICLE RADIO FREQUENCY TAGGING AND SECURITY SYSTEM DUE 122898 POC Terence Lew (202) 927-0423 Commercial Vehicle Radio Frequency Tagging and Security System Customs intends to issue a purchase order to Randtec, Inc., Fairfax on a non-competitive basis for a Commercial Vehicle Radio Frequency Tagging and Security System. This system requires off-the-shelf approach involving radio frequency identification device (RFID) tags, bar code readers, anti-tamper protection seals, and specialized software. Randtec, Inc. was selected because of their unique hardware, software, and integration capabilities. Customs requirements for driver control include an RFID tags and reader with read distances greater than 12 feet where the tags is of a size and form factor than can be worn by the driver as a badge. This turn-key system shall include all the necessary fabrication, engineering, hardware, software, technical, quality control, testing, and training and shall exert electronic control over all vehicles/drivers being directed (a) to the broker for paperwork; (b) to secondary inspection; and (c) to the hold compound at each of the Peace Bridge, NY and Lewiston, NY crossings. Control shall commence at the primary truck line booths for all trucks and drivers detained within the Port of Entry. Control shall terminate at the secondary processing facilities. The control system installaltions shall be at the Peace Bridge crossings in Buffalo, NY and the Lewiston crossing in Lewiston, NY.
