P -- TIMBER SALE SOL F16602-99-B0001 DUE 021099 POC Mrs Sue Lee, (318)456-6887; Contracting Officer, Mrs Betty Stalder, (318) 456-6890 Sale of pine and hardwood timber suitable for wood chips, sawlogs and pulpwood in Record Units 22 and 42 on the East Reservation, Barksdale AFB LA. The sale includes the thinning of overstocked pine stands on approximately 260 acres. This operation will primarily be a wood chipping operation given the large number of small diameter stems throughout the sale area. The harvest is an operator select thinning. Thinning shall primarily be from below with the harvest of codominant trees as needed to leave a minimum of 75 square feet of basal area of pine per acre with the larger diameter, straight, clean sound trees to be left. The sale is to harvest parallel strips of timber 18 feet wide leaving a 40 foot side area between the 18 feet wide strips. The 40 foot wide area is then to be thinned. Harvested pines that are 13 inches DBH or larger with at least one merchantable 16 foot log are to be hauled for sawtimber. No pine trees larger than 17 inches DBH will be harvested. The topwood left from harvested pinesawtimber trees is to be chipped. Cutting to begin no later than 180 days after award with 365 days to complete removal after contract is awarded. Timber harvesting will not be allowed during the 15-day annual gun deer hunting for Barksdale AFB. Anticipated issue date is 11 January 1999; anticipated opening date 10 February 1999.
