Dahlgren Division, Coastal Systems Station, Panama City, Florida,
intends to procure 150 Versatile Exercise Mine System (VEMS)
Magnetometer Upgrade Kits and related software upgrades to improve
performance and correct deficiencies in the existing VEMS magnetometer.
The VEMS is a mine simulator training device designed to emulate the
target detection capabilities of various known bottom mines. The
upgrade to the magnetometer will consist of an in-line back-off module
and a new circuit board which will be added to the Emulation Processor
Recorder (P/N WAB477) within the Instrument Rack Mk69 to implement
improved magnetometer performance. The upgrade will also consist of
modifications/improvements to VEM DATE Operational Software (WAC411),
VEM Emulation Processor Recorder (EPR) software. These software
upgrades are required to implement the enhanced magnetometer and new
conditioning circuitry into the VEM. The US Navy intends to procure the
VEMS Magnetometer Upgrade Kits from British Aerospace (BAeSEMA).
BAeSEMA own proprietary rights to VEMS hardware and software and are
the sole source capable of developing and manufacturing the
Magnetometer Upgrade Kits. The point of contact for this contract
