USAID/SOUTH AFRICA AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER in Pretoria, requests
expressions of interest from qualified organizations for the following
Request for Application (RFA) No. 674-99-A-004, Implementation of Adult
Basic Education and Training (ABET) in the Eastern Cape and the
Northern Province. This activity is being implemented in collaboration
with the national Department of Education (nDOE) and respective
provincial Departments of Education (pDOEs). The United States Agency
for International Development/Mission to South Africa (USAID/SA) is
requesting applications from non-profit Organizations in response to
Request for Applications (RFA) No.674-99-A-004, to successfully
implement effective Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) learning
programs in two new elective sub-fields -- Agriculture and Small,
Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) -- at the General Education and
Training Certificate (GETC) level in two focus provinces, namely: the
Eastern Cape and the Northern Province. A 25 percent matching
contribution to the overall costs of the program described herein is
desired from the applicant. South African government owned or
controlled organizations or entities are not eligible for financing as
grantees, subgrantees or contractors. An organization or entity will
generally be deemed to be government-controlled if: a) it was created
by statute; b) the government has authority to appoint and remove a
majority of the members of the Board of Directors or other controlling
body; and/or c) it receives a substantial part of its operating budget
from government appropriations. The RFA will be issued o/a December 9,
1998. Deadline for receipt of proposals at USAID/South Africa offices
will be January 22, 1999 at 2:00 pm Pretoria Time. Contact Point --
