A -- MINIATURIZED PROXIMITY GAUGES WITH ASSOCIATED CABLING AND ELECTRONICS FOR LIMITED SPACE CONDITIONS SOL CIT-98-172 DUE 121698 POC Christine Ramos, Technology Transfer Specialist, Civilian & Industrial Technology Program Office, Mail Stop C334, P. O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545, Tel: (505) 665-6846, Fax: (505) 665-6127, E-mail: ctramos@lanl.gov E-MAIL: ctramos@lanl.gov, ctramos@lanl.gov. The University of California, which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies wishing to collaborate, develop, and then market a unique technology related to small proximity gauges, including associated cabling and electronics, for applications where instrumentation space is extremely limited. Gauges should be capable of measuring distances from 1mm to 1 cm with an accuracy of +0.025mm or less, at a frequency rate from DC to 1 kHz. Gauge principal dimensions should be on the order of a few millimeters, and associated cables should be 1 mm in diameter or less. Associated electronic components should be amenable for inclusion into low power microtelemetry systems currently under development by LANL and other national laboratories. The entire measurement system must withstand temperature ranges from 40 to +160oF, and vibrational loads up to 50g. Those companies interested in pursuing this opportunity should respond with a Letter of Interest that they satisfy the minimum criteria. The interested parties must possess, or have access to existing capabilities in research, development, marketing and support services in the domestic marketplace, preferably related to this technology. The collaborative partner will be selected based on a demonstrated expertise in a multitude of areas. The technical expertise and experience in the field of short-range, proximity measurement will be foremost in choosing a partner. The practical engineering of products along with proven reliability record will be considered. The selected company should be a recognized world leader in proximity measurements, with a proven track record of providing quality, flexible products. Previous experience with R&D project within the DOE complex is desirable. The company must have flexibility for accommodating changing parameters as the system is refined. Any interested organization selected as a partner will be expected to work under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) or a Funds-In Agreement (FIA) to continue the development of this technology and adaptations to other applications. The Letter of Interest must be received by close of business (5pm MST) December 16, 1998. Posted 12/01/98 (W-SN275982). (0335)
