58 -- AN/WSQ-6 (XAN-1) SATELLITE TRANSMITTING SONOBUOY SOL N00164-99-Q-0043 DUE 010499 POC Ms. Kathy King, Code 1165ZP, 812-854-3734, FAX 812-854-5666; Ms Mary Brewer, Contract Specialist The Navy requires 36 AN/WSQ-6 (XAN-1) Satellite Transmitting Sonobuoys to support the Naval Oceanographic Office Integrated Drifting Buoy Program. The sonobuoys are aircraft or hand launched, A-size, expendable, with a 90-day life. The sonobuoys report air temperature, sea surface temperature, barometric pressure, and subsurface temperature data via the ARGOS satellite system. The sonobuoys are to be manufactured in accordance with performance specifications. This requirement will be solicited on a limited basis from Sparton Electronics Florida Inc., 5612 Johnson Lake Road, DeLeon Springs, FL 32028-0788 and METOCEAN Data Systems Limited, 40 Fielding Avenue, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada B3B 1E4 due to Sparton and METOCEAN being the only Navy-qualified sources for the sonobuoy being procured and who can meet the required delivery schedule. To produce an acceptable AN/WSQ-6 (XAN-1) sonobuoy, a manufacturer must meet the following testing requirements: environmental and laboratory testing, ocean airdrop testing, safety qualification, hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance testing, air safe certification, performance oriented packaging testing, hazards of electrostatic discharge to ordnance safety certification for helicopter vertical replenishment handling (25 K and 300 K volts), and containment testing. The costs of these tests shall be incurred by the contractor. Delivery shall be FOB destination within 180 days after contract award.
