Marianne C. Shuster, mshuster@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC
is contemplating execution of a contract effort to develop automated
manufacturing equipment in support of Modular Artillery Charge System
(MACS) combustible case manufacture. A three year effort is planned to
include a basic contract plus two one year options. The manufacturing
process for MACS combustible case components involves processing of
energetic materials (class 4.1C flammable solid) on steam heated
molding dies. Molding preforms are made from an aqueous slurry of
fibers and resins using a technique known as the "Beater Additive
Process." Contractor shall have requisite engineering staff and
manufacturing facilities for the production of MACS combustible case
components. The contractor's facilities shall include (1) fully
equipped laboratory for chemical analysis and physical property testing
and (2) manufacturing facility equipment (slurry tanks, felting tanks,
molding presses, finishing equipment and inspection hardware) to
support the development effort. This acquisition is planned as sole
source to Armtec Defense Products, Coachella, CA. See Numbered Notes 22
and 26. Posted 12/07/98 (D-SN277636). (0341) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0109 19981209\13-0002.SOL)
