SOUGHT NOTICE. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is
interested in reviewing and evaluating commercially available explosive
initiators or identifying offerors for the devlopment of an explosive
initiator system to meet specific needs. This sources sought effort is
to identify manufacturing sources for explosive initiators compatible
with shock tube or any other non-electrical initiator system. The
definition of "Shock Tube" is a plastic conduits of circular cross
section, coated with a thin layer of energitic material on their inside
walls which when activated transmits an explosive wave down the tube.
The requirements of the initiator are as follows: 1. Must be at least
as insensitive to unintended detonation by mechanical shock as
Detonating Cord. Specifically, as insensitive as the Army's Detonating
Cord, Types I & II defined in MIL-C-0017124. 2. Be operable from -35
degree Fahrenheit to +120 degree Fahrenheit after being subjected to
storage temperatures of -60 degree Fahrenheit to +160 degree
Fahrenheit. 3. Must be compatible with shock tube. 4. Must be
compatible with any other non-electrical initiator system. 5. Must not
detonate when a 25-pound bar with a diameter of 2 inches is dropped on
it from a height of 16 feet. The initiator must be placed on a steel
anvil for this test. Procedures used to determine non-detonation must
be provided for approval. 6. Must initiate M700 Fuze, Blast Time. 7.
Must initiate shock tube. It should be noted that this is not a Request
for Proposal; the purpose of this sources sought notice is to sek
commercial sources with existing hardware or the capabilities of
integrating existing technology, hardware/system to meet the U.S. Army
requirements. Any/all interested parties shall comply with Note 25 by
