only and no award will result from it. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard
(NNSY) requests contractor services to process and dispose of
radioactive metal items coated with paint containing less than 500 ppm
PCBs directly by means of a smelter which meets 40 CFR 761.72(b)
requirements. NNSY's primary interest is in locating contractor
services for direct smelting of radioactive metal coated with paint
containing less than 500 ppm PCBs. However, NNSY is also interested in
contractor services to 1) process and dispose of nonradioactive metal
items coated with paint containing less than 500 ppm PCBs directly by
means of a smelter which meets 40 CFR 761.72(b) requirements; 2)
process radioactive metal items coated with paints containing greater
tham 500 ppm PCBs in accordance with the applicable decontamination and
smelting requirements contained in 40 CFR 761.79(b)(3)(ii)(B) and 40
CFR 761.79(c)(6); and 3) process nonradioactive metal items coated with
paints containing greater tham 500 ppm PCBs in accordance with the
applicable decontamination and smelting requirements contained in 40
CFR 761.79(b)(3)(ii)(B) and 40 CFR 761.79(c)(6). Contractors which can
provide equivalent cost effective processing and disposal (in
accordance with 40 CFR 761 requirements) to the methods listed above
are also encouraged to respond. These services will require the
transportation of the equipment from NNSY and U.S. locations to the
contractor's processing facility. The services will also require the
safeguarding of classified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information.
