The Tongass National Forest plans to contract for precommercial thinning services for approximately 583 acres of 15-20 year old conifer reproduction. The work is located on the east side of Heceta Island on the Thorne Bay Ranger District. Heceta Island is approximately 35 air miles, northwest of Thorne Bay, Alaska and approximately 20-25 miles by boat from Naukati, which is located on the west side of Prince of Wales Island, Southeast Alaska. The contractor must furnish all labor, supervision, transportation, housing, subsistence, equipment, operating supplies and incidentals required to complete the work. The contract time is 170 calendar days. The Forest Service anticipates issuing the Notice to Proceed on approximately April 1, 1999. This project is 100% set-aside for small business concerns.
