A -- PREVENTION OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE IN DIABETES MELLITUS -- CLINICAL NETWORK CENTER SOL NHLBI-HC-99-16 DUE 033199 POC Mr. John Taylor, Contracting Officer, 301-435-0350 The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is soliciting proposals for Clinical Network Centers (approximately 8-10 awards)to participate in a multi-center clinical trial to study the prevention of cardiovascular disease in diabetes mellitus. The period of performance is for nine-years beginning on or about September 30, 1999 through September 30, 2008. The study will consist of a Coordinating Center, approximately 8-10 Clinical Network Centers, a Pharmacy Distribution Center, and the following subcontracted laboratories under the Coordinating Center: a Core ECG Laboratory, a Core Chemistry Laboratory, and a Core Retinal Photography Laboratory. A planned total of 10,000 patients will be randomized into six intervention or control groups in a 3-by-2 factorial design. The Clinical Network Centers will have the responsibility for establishing and implementing a clinical network for the recruitment, management, and follow-up of a minimum of 1,000 patients (study-wide goal of 10,000 patients) according to the study protocol. This is an unrestricted competition and this announcement invites all responsible sources interested in performing as a Clinical Network Center for this study (RFP No. NHLBI-HC-99-16) to submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency.
