The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for the design and installation of a blown optical fiber (BOF) network aboard the ex-USS SHADWELL. The BOF network shall support operational computer systems, scientific data collection systems, and real-time video monitoring. Operational computer systems include computers, sensors, and machinery controls as they might be used in operational shipboard systems. Scientific data collection systems include data acquisition and analysis computers and related instrumentation for the collection of fire/flooding data for research purposes. The real-time video system shall provide multiple simultaneous NTSC video signals with audio from cameras and microphones located throughout the ship. The BOF cable plant shall provide high speed data transmission (100 Mbps or higher) and shall be designed to provide robust connectivity between the ten node rooms on the ship. Proposals shall include options for 1) ship-check and detailed design of cable plant and interface equipment for computers and data acquisition systems, 2) installation of the BOF network and interface equipment, and 3) design and installation of data acquisition software and hardware to support real-time plotting and logging of onboard sensor data.
