E-MAIL: Dr. Clark R. Wilson, cwilson@hq.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announces the solicitation of proposals for scientific investigations to be carried out as part of the Solid Earth and Natural Hazards research and applications programs in support of the Office of Earth Science. The solicitation aims to develop and use NASA space geodetic and remote sensing technology to improve understanding of the physical dynamics of the solid earth (including the interaction with atmosphere, ocean and fluid core) and to improve and demonstrate the capability of this technology in the assessment and mitigation of natural hazards. Priorities of the Solid Earth and Natural Hazards Research and Applications sought in this solicitation include: I. Dynamics of the Solid Earth (Earth Parameters/ Earth Dynamics): 1. Static and Time Variable Gravity Measurements, 2. Earth Orientation, Reference Frames, Angular Momentum of Earth Systems, 3. Geomagnetism; II. Topography & Surface Change: 1. GPS and INSAR Applications, 2. Global SeaLevel, 3. Coastal Hazards, 4. Flood Disaster Management Applications 5. Landslides, 6. SRTM/Topography and Surface Change Science Team III. Hazards of Short Term Climate Change/El Nino Cycles IV. Thermal and Geothermal Hazards: 1. Wildfires, 2. Volcanic Hazards; and V. Pacific Disaster Center Modeling and Simulation VI. Geologic Applications of Remote Sensing. VII. Airborne Data Acquisitions and the Pacific Rim Airborne Campaign Participation in this program is open to all categories of organizations, both domestic and foreign: educational institutions, other nonprofit organizations, NASA centers, industry, and other Government agencies. This solicitation is available electronically via the Internet at the Office of Earth Science Home Page: http://www.earth.nasa.gov/ under "Research Opportunities" or via anonymous ftp at: ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/mtpe.
