Cornelius.Square.1@gsfc.nasa.gov. NASA/GSFC intends to issue a new
work add on modification to Contract NAS5-32799 with Raytheon Optical
Systems, Inc.(ROSI) for providing six latch sets; of which five will be
flight qualified for use on HST SM4. ROSI developed, fabricated and
tested the current HST Latch inventory and has the intimate design
knowledge necessary to complete this new effort in the allotted time
frame and constraints. The HST latch system is a highly specialized
kinematic mounting system for HST instruments both in the Shuttle Bay
and on HST itself. The latches are precision mechanisms that require
dimentional tolerancing within .001 inch. The latch sets are asembled
from several hundred unique parts (detailed in as many drawings)
following an assembly process that requires the use of over 100
detailed step-by-step procedures that embody thousands of individual
steps which are performed in aclass 10,000 clean room. The deliveries
will be made in September 1999 through June 2001. This procurement is
made under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1) -- Only One
Responsible Source. Any other firm seeking consideration should
identify their capability to provide these latch Sets within 15 days of
this publication to the GSFC Office and Individual listed above. See
