C -- A&E BRIDGE DESIGN SOL RFQ 8-03-99-12 DUE 012599 POC Kim Carithers or Marcia O'Connor The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest is seeking a design firm to produce plans and specs for the replacement of the Jack's River steel truss bridge. Either a steel or concrete replacement is acceptable. The existing abutments are to be utilized if possible. The existing intermediate supports may be abandoned. All survey data needed for the design must be acquired by the design firm. A cost estimate for the construction of the designed replacement is required. Plans are to be stamped by a Professional Engineer registered in Georgia. The Jack's River Bridge is an old steel truss bridge located in the Conasauga River watershed. The bridge is an overhead truss design with pin-connected members. These pin connections are the critical elements. It presently has a load limit of 4 tons and is about 145 feet long. There has been tremendous deterioration of critical members over the years. The paint systems used on this structure through the years have been lead based. The Jacks and Conasauga River Watershed, an extremely environmentally sensitive area, is home to numerous threatened and endangered species. The design needs to minimize construction impacts within the watershed, as well as longer term maintenance impacts. There is no solicitation package to request; firms desiring consideration should submit Standard Forms 254 and 255 by January 25, 1999. This procurement is being made under the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program and is set aside for emerging small businesses (firms with average annual receipts of $1.25 million or less). See Note 24 for complete information on the A&E selection process. Posted 12/18/98 (W-SN281851). (0352)
