The Navy requires 405 each Western Digital Hard Disk Drives, model WDE 9100-0003. The disk drives are the central file server mass storage for all data and programs that are utilized by the Trident-class SSBN Fire Control System. Two product samples are required within 45 days from effective date of contract award. One shall be delivered FOB destination to General Dynamics Defense Systems (GDDS) Pittsfield, MA and one shall be delivered FOB destination to NSWC Crane, IN. Delivery of the production units shall be FOB destination GDDS Pittsfield, MA within 60 days from the approval of the product samples. Final inspection and acceptance shall be at GDDS Pittsfield, MA. These items will be procured on a sole-source basis from Western Digital in accordance with FAR 6.302-1; i.e., only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. These items have underwent extensive performance and systems compatibility testing for use in the MK 98 Fire Control System. As a result of the unique design specifications, no other vendor's components can be substituted without the Government incurring substantial costs to have the system redesigned. See Notes 12 and 22.
