This is a Request for Information (RFI); neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in concert with Department of the Interior (DOI) bureaus is requesting information from sources regarding commercially available Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. The USGS and DOI have extensive installations of ESRI's Arc/INFO, ArcView and Spatial Data Engine (SDE) GIS software on both Unix and PC platforms and we have a continuing requirement for this software functionality. Responses to this synopsis shall contain technical documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe software capabilities for spatial data analysis, editing, viewing, web distribution, and creation and management of spatial metadata, and whether the described capabilities provide any portion of the functionality and support for the products listed above. The USGS has a significant investment in Arc/INFO, ArcView and SDEspatial data sets, therefore, the response should address how the proposed products access, query, display and serve Arc/INFO and ArcView vector and raster data sets, and Spatial Data Engine (SDE) databases directly from magnetic disk without data translation. Publicly available commercial product description and pricing information in response to the above requirement is also requested in as much detail as possible. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis.
