Reed (206) 526-6034, for copy of Solicitation call (206)526-6425 The 1999 Gulf of Alaska bottom trawl survey will begin in Dutch Harbor, AK O/A June 1, 1999 and end in either Ketchikan, AK, Kodiak, AK or Dutch Harbor, AK or another port mutually agreeable to both parties on or about August 9, 1999. The duration of the charter will be for 70 days. An option by the Government to extend the charter for up to 10 days is included. If the option for the 10 days is exercised, the start of the survey will be advanced so that the survey will be completed prior to the start of the Bering Sea pollock fishing season. The survey will be broken into either four or five legs of roughly equal length, depending on how many of the option days are exercised. High opening NorEastern trawls equipped with roller gear will be used to sample preselected stations in a number of depth strata covering from near shore areas out to 500m and possibly as deep as 100m. The survey will begin at the Islands of Four Mountains (long 170 degrees West) and continue eastward along the continental shelf to the southeastern survey boundary at Dixon Entrance long 134 degrees40'W). Vessel requirements include a minimum overall length of 36.5m (120ft), maintain a minimum cruising speed of at least 16.8 km/hr (9nm/hr) in low sea states, have fuel capacity for approximately 30 days of continuous fishing operations, be completely rigged for trawling, etc. Additional vessel requirements will be listed in the solicitation specifications.
