Contract Specialist (202) 942-3541 FDIC is seeking sources to indicate
interest in providing Virtual Private Network service from a single
vendor nationwide. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE PROPOSALS. The
purpose of this notice is to develop a list of qualified firms that can
provide this service. A response to this request for information does
not guarantee that a firm will be solicited on any solicitation as a
result of this request for information. Background: The FDIC has
approximately 4500 remote users located throughout the Continental
United States and Puerto Rico who required dail-up access into the
FDIC's network. Laptop computers have been issued to 3500 of these
users, the remainder use desktop PC's. Currently, those users equipped
with laptops access the FDIC network via an Attachmate RLN server
(remote node connectivity). Eleven of those systems are located in
Regional Offices thoughout the county. Staff members who do not have a
FDIC laptop access the netwrok by dialing into a cubix/PC anywhere
system (remote controlconnectivity) located in Arlington, VA.
Requirements: 1. A multi-year contract with the prime contractor as the
principal vendor. 2. Provide the most cost-effective VPN remote access
solution capable of providing service to remote users anywhere
throughout the United States with a guanteed end-to-end connection
speed of at least 56 kbps (using v.90 standards). 3. Solution must use
the Internet for transport with an IPsec client for the remote user.
4. The solution, at a minimum, must provide DES and 3-DES encryption
capability for all connections tunneling through the Internet.
Respondents to this Request for information should provide the
following: 1. A general description of the respondent company's
capabilities. 2. Examples of the respondent company's past experience
providing similar services. 3. A brief, high-level description of how
the respondent company would approach the requirements listed above.
Responses should be five single-spaced pages in length or less. Firms
responding to this announcement which fail to provide the required
information may not be considered for inclusion into any resulting
