JPL ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT OPTICS CHALLENGE WORKSHOP MARCH 24 & 25 The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Goddard Space Flight Center, and the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center invite industry, universities, national observatories, government laboratories and other qualified institutions to participate in the Ultra Lightweight Space Optics Challenge Workshop to be held in Napa, CA on March 24-25, 1999. This meeting is a reconnaissance of the long-range technology challenges of the 20-40 meter class telescopes needed for NASA's Origins Program. These systems include the Next-Next Generation Space Telescope and large optical interferometers designed to characterize extra-solar planets. The objective is to provide a forum for technical interchange that will serve to steer NASA investments in existing, emerging and potentially feasible future ultra lightweight space optics technologies and optical system concepts. The specific topics of interest are technologies for large ultra lightweight space mirrors and related concepts for 20-40 meter class space telescopes operating at mid-infrared wavelengths. Individuals and organizations responding to this announcement should indicate their desire to participate and provide a proposed title, a brief presentation abstract (100 words or less) and indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation format. Responses are due February 15, 1999 and will only be accepted by e-mail at: rcapps@jpl.nasa.gov Final selection of presentations will be made by the Program Committee no later than March 1, 1999. The Program Committee may also elect to issue invitations separately from this solicitation. Further information on the final Agenda will be available shortly after March 1st. Delivery of a final manuscript for web publication will be required prior to your presentation at the meeting. This opportunity does not include financial support. Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs as well as a registration fee.
