The National Cancer Institute intends to negotiate with Aspen Systems Corporation, for a six-month extension to contract number N02-CO-40552, for Technical Writing and Publications Distribution Support for OCICE Public Inquiries Program. The contractor will continue to provide technical writing, special mailings and support for project computer capabilities, updating reference files which are used as a source of information for replying to inquiries. Additionally, Aspen operates the Publications Ordering Service component of the Cancer Information Service which includes taking telephone, written, fax and e-mail orders for NCI publications. The effort required to assume responsibility for the aforementioned services, responding to the volume of Cancer-related inquiries from the public and Note: (35 million copies of NCI publications would have to be moved from the contractors warehouse). This makes competition infeasible for only a six month period. This extension is at the end of a five year contract and will allow time to conduct and complete a competitive procurement.
