Systems Center intends to issue a competitive solicitation to conduct
computer modeling, using motion simulation software to compute the
dynamic responses based upon computational mesh analyzes that
represents different train configurations and their surrounding
airspace as they pass on adjacent tracks. Of specific interest are
streamlined high-speed passenger trains and their interaction with high
surface freight trains carrying empty double stack containers and
commuter rail vehicles with large window areas. A successful modeling
effort will analyze the aerodynamic forces and other effects related to
the interaction of such trains taking into account the flow of air
surrounding the moving trains on parallel tracks. The solicitation will
be released us ing full and open competition. A Cost Plus Fixed Fee
type contract is anticipated. Estimated release date is February 24,
1999. Anticipated award date is June 1, 1999. The applicable SIC Code
