B -- REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS -- MULTIPLE SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH PROJECTS FOR THE NPS. SOL UI99-101H DUE 040199 POC Point of Contact-Sandy Watson, 208-885-7054 To help achieve the objectives of the National Park Service (NPS) Social Science Program, the University of Idaho (UI) is currently soliciting proposals for five (5) research projects. These projects will be awarded and funded through subcontracts with the UI Cooperative Park Studies Unit (CPSU). This Request-for-Proposals (RFP) covers all five research projects; each project will be awarded separately through a formal competition. Research Project 1 will focus on advancing the NPS Money Generation Model (MGM), a regional economic impact model that was developed to estimate the economic benefits of park visitor expenditures. The cost of Research Project 1 is expected to be within the range of $68,000 to $75,000. Research Project 2 will focus on the development and advancement of social carrying capacity methodologies to guide management decisions that may limit visitor use. The cost of Research Project 2 is expected to be within the range of $25,000 to $30,000. Research Project 3 will focus on the development and advancement of the Visitor Experience and Resource Protection (VERP) framework, a visitor use management and planning tool that has been used by several units of the National Park System. The cost of Research Project 3 is expected to be within the range of $25,000 to $30,000. Research Project 4 will focus on the development and administration of a national survey of the American public to help answer key research questions related to the management of the National Park System. The cost of Research Project 4 is expected to be within the range of $62,000 to $70,000. Research Project 5 will focus on evaluating the effect of the NPS Fee Demonstration Program on backcountry users in Grand Canyon and Everglades national parks. The cost of Research Project 5 is expected to be within the range of $42,000 to $50,000. A copy of the full RFP packet is required to prepare a competitive proposal.
