R -- TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO USAID/HAITI PROJECT FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE ECONOMY IN TRANSITION (PRET) POC Anne L. Terio, Contracting Officer, Tel: 509-22-5500, Fax: 509-23-9603 Port-Au-Prince Subject to the availability of funds, and pursuant to AIDAR 706.302.70, The United States Agency for International Development (USAID/HAITI) intends to award a non-competitive modification to contract no. 521-C-00-95-00059-00 with Development Alternatives, Inc., 7250 Woodmont Avenue, SUite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814, to continue with DAI for period of 19 months )i.e. September 30, 2000) of services under the original contract scope of work, to provide technical assistance and training to assist Haitian formal banking and non-banking intermediaries to extend broader access to credit in the Haitian informal sector. The current DAI long-term technical assistance contract which was awarded in September 1995 has established and implements a load guarantee fund to support the formal banking sector and a small and medium enterprise fund to support non-banking intermediaries. DAI also provides technical assistance to reduce transactional costs and risks and works to improve overall portfolio performance. The importance of this project has been increased due to the recent damage in rural areas caused by Hurricane Georges where DAI specialists support rapidly expanding village banking networks.
