Sozanski, Contracting Officer, Telephone 617/495-7376, FAX 617/496-7992, or email: psozanski@cfa.harvard.edu The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory requires the fabrication and delivery of six sets of shelter panels. Each set consists of (30) different sized shelter panels all based on a similar construction. A detail panel drawing exists for each panel and a panel construction specification details required materials, panel delivery requirements, and construction techniques. The panels range in size from approximately 3.4m x 2.6m x .08m to .35m x .34m x .03m. The construction is a based on welded steel members which form the panel frame. To one side of the frame, fiberglass thermal breaks are bonded. Over the thermal breaks a corrugated steel panel (manufactured by VAW Metawell) is bonded and/or riveted to the frame. The cavities between frame members are then filled flush with foam insulation and the opposite corrugated steel panel is bonded and or riveted to the frame. The edges are to be sealed and the panel primed and painted. The skilled disciplines required are: metal forming and cutting, bonding with adhesives, welding, riveting, applying foamed-in-place insulation, sealing, and painting. Contract award is expected to be made early April 1999. Anticipated required delivery is staggered over the period from 14 weeks ARO to 21 months ARO. This contract will be for two sets of shelter panels with an option for four to six additional sets.
