Department of the Interior in conjunction with the Departments of
Commerce, Agriculture, and Justice, the Environmental Protection
Agency, and several local communities are undertaking six pilot
projects to demonstrate the value and efficiency of Federal/local
community partnerships to develop geospatial data solutions to
community problems to enhance the livability of those communities.
Issues to be addressed include water and environmental quality, smart
growth and land use planning, habit restoration, flood mitigation and
response, and crime mapping. The pilot projects include the following
communities: Baltimore City, Maryland; Dane County, Wisconsin; Gallatin
County, Montana; the Tijuana River Watershed, California and Mexico;
Tillamook County, Oregon; and the Upper Susquehanna-Lackawanna
Watershed, Pennsylvania. These communities are interested in receiving
support for Community Demonstration Projects from the geographic
information systems vendor community or other interested vendors.
Support to the community could be in the form of software, hardware, or
technical services and would be provided at no cost. Please contact
