Munitions seeks interested sources for production of the XM782
Multi-Option Fuze for Artillery (MOFA). The MOFA program is nearing
completion of its Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase
and plans to transition into initial produciton. The proposed
acquisition strategy directs initial production for FY99 and FY00
(Option FY01) sole-source to Aliant Techsystems, the competitively
selected development contractor. The U.S. Army plans to pursue
follow-on production through a competitively awarded multi year
contract for FY01-05, limiting competition to U.S. and Canada sources.
The Product Manager is interested in determining if there are
additional qualified manufacturers that possess the resources required
to meet an average production schedule of 20,000 fuzes per month and
be self facilitized. Interested sources should submit information to
demonstrate the following: a) experience with high volume production of
low cost RF proximity fuzes; b) expertise in the design and fabrication
of custom tooling and as well as the development of processes for the
manufacture and/or assembly of Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs), RF
assemblies, and other electrical and mechanical fuze components; c)
expertise in the design and fabrication of electronic fuze testers
including real-time RF target simulators that can quickly and
accurately exercise the fuze as an end item to verify that the
proximity sensor functions with the proper sensitivity; d) experience
with the inductive setting system used by the U.S. Army; e) facilities
to handle, store and assemble explosive components such as detonators
and boosters to fuze assemblies; f) ability to acquire, handle, and
store classified information and data up to the Secret level; g)
facilities or the ability to facilitize to accommodate average
produciton of 20,000 MOFA fuzes per month. Firms with experience in the
areas cited above should provide a summary of its capabilities, past
experience, facilities, and personnel by email. Brocures can be sent to
