E-MAIL: Steve Whalen, swhalen@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM/ARDEC
is proposing to evaluate new formulations for lubricant conforming to
MIL-L-46000, Lubricant, Semi-Fluid (Automatic Weapons). The industry
provided samples shall be provided at no cost to the Government which
includes shipping and any other associated cost. The formulation for
this lubricant (military designation LSA) is currently designated in
paragraph 3.2.1 of the specification. In line with today's trend to use
more environmentally friendly, less toxic products where possible.
TACOM/ARDEC is soliciting industry to submit newly formulated products
to be qualified against the requirements of MIL-L-46000. Formulation
of the new lubricant is left open to the manufacturer, however, it
should address TACOM/ARDEC's concern by eliminating toxic constituents
such as the barium containing compounds. Candidate products should be
formulated in line with meeting the current requirements of
MIL-L-46000 but some leeway can be granted in meeting the exact
requirements. For initial testingtwo (2) gallons of each candidate
product should be submitted to TACOM/ARDEC by the end of March, 1999.
All costs associated with the tests will be the responsibility of
TACOM/ARDEC. Please include Material Safety Data Sheets with each
submission. Receipt and evaluation of any sample lubricants will not
obligate the Government to any future acquisitions or endorsements.
Candidate samples should be sent to: U.S. Army TACOM/ARDEC,
AMSTA-AR-WEA, Bldg. 355, Attn: Steve Whalen, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.
07806-5000 POC for this matter is Steve Whalen, Phone No: 973-724-3874.
