COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 5,1999 PSA#2277A -- GAMMA RAY LARGE AREA SPACE TELESCOPE (GLAST) SCIENCE
INVESTIGATIONS The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
is releasing a Draft Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for community
comment (Final Release anticipated for May or June 1999) for science
investigations using the Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST).
GLAST is a new space mission for observing high-energy gamma-rays from
celestial objects. Science investigations using GLAST are solicited
both for investigations that propose the development of flight
instruments for GLAST and for investigations that do not. NASA intends
to select a single investigation proposing development of a Large Area
Telescope and approximately four investigations which do not propose
the development of flight instruments. NASA may select one or more
investigations proposing development of secondary instruments. GLAST is
not an approved program. GLAST is currently in Phase A (Concept Study)
and will seek a new start in Fiscal Year 2002. GLAST launch is
currently planned for 2005. Participation is open to all categories of
organizations, foreign and domestic, including industry, educational
institutions, nonprofit organizations, NASA centers, and other
Government agencies. NASA welcomes comment of the Draft AO, which will
be available through March 4, 1999, via the World Wide Web site:
