Battelle Memorial Institute, Pacific Northwest Division (Battelle)
seeks interested parties to commercialize and/or license Battelle's
MUSTPAC (tm) System. MUSTPAC (tm) is an ultrasound medical imaging
system that can scan patients to generate 3-D volumetric digital
datasets, interactivey generate 3-D and 2-D images for use by
diagnosticians, and optionally transfer datasets over standard
communication links to facilitate remort diagnosis and consultation. It
is designed to work in a telemedicine framework, enabling
diagnositcally useful ultrasound scans to be taken by an operator with
diagnostic skills, modest training, and no online connection to an
expert. The earlier versions of MUSTPAC (tm) were developed under a
research project of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA). The DARPA MUSTPAC program saw the system deployed with US
Forces to Bosnia in 1996, receive a Discover Magazine Award in 1997,
and deployed with a Mount Everest Expedition in 1998. Currently this
system is being evaluated for use in clincal trials by the National
Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD for shipboard deployment in 1999.
DARPA's research ojectives have been met and the project has moved
into the technology transfer stage. The current system configuration
can be viewed at the MUSTPAC URL: http://aims.pnl.gov:2080/MUSTPAC-2
The next generation system, MUSTPAC 3, is currently being developed to
support clinical trials (beginning in the spring of 1999) in remote
operational environments by Mercy Health System, Bala Cynward,
Pennsylvania and McKennan Medical System, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Interested firms must submit a statement of interest, including a
