(810) 574-7895 Nomenclature: Roadwheel (for the Abrams Tank; NSN:
2530-01-201-4816; P/N: 12324548. Drawing 12324548 requires all
roadwheels to be capable of fulfilling road test requirements of 2,850
miles, as specified by the following notes: Note 4: Assemblies shall
meet the requirements of Note 6 after having completed 2,850 miles of
road test. 21% Paved, 45% Gravel, 17% Level Cross Country, 17% Hilly
Cross Country. Note 5: Replacement of wheel assemblies shall be
performed during testing when the tire meets one of the following
criteria: (a) Rubber becomes seperated in excess of one (1) inch in any
direction; (b) Chunking occurs in excess of 20 percent or extending
more than one-half the width of the wheel. Note 6: Upon completion of
testing. Wheel assembly replacement shall have occured in less than 7
out of 32 original roadwheels during the total testing period of 2,850
miles. Red River Army Depot is the only source known at this time that
can meet the mileage requirement. An Engineering Change Proposal is in
process to add a list of approved sources of supply for rubberization
described on Drawing 12324555. Any sources interested in becoming an
approved source for future requirements can contact Doug Hedberg at
(810) 574-8675 to obtain the latest drawing requirements. TACOM will
cover the cost of the road test which will be done on a piggy back
basis at Yuma Proving Grounds. Interested contractors will be required
to provide 80 wheels for testing. Contact Dennis Sweers at (810)
