Biological Chemical Command and the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA) propose to award a sole source modification under an
existing contract to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
for fifty (50) additional phone-type handsets capable of visual
browsing and voice activation of World Wide Web (WWW) data utilizing a
low power microdisplay viewer integrated with a wireless internet
radio frequency (RF) infrastructure. These handsets were developed
under an existing contract with MIT, which was awarded under an Army
Broad Agency Announcement. No other handset of comparable capability is
known by the Army to exist. The combination of these two facts means
that only MIT is capable of meeting the Army/DARPA requirement. This
acquisition is time-sensitive. Responses to this announcement should be
