The Food and Drug Administration [FDA], Center for Food Safety and
Applied Nurition [CFSAN] intends to award a purchase order for a Biolog
Microstation, equivalent to the Biolog, Model 62461. The microstation
shall be a yeast identification automated system and shall be able to
perform the following: 1] facilitate accurate and rapid identification
[ID within 48 hours] of a high number of yeasts found in consumer
products such as foods, drugs and cosmetics, 2] use a high number of
biochemical tests [approximately 95 tests -- virtually all tests
utilized by the conventional methods], and 3] eliminate the
