COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 9,1999 PSA#2279GREENHOUSE GAS TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION CENTER EXECUTIVE STAKEHOLDER
MEETING The Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program, in
existence since 1995, is administered by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development. It is funded by
Congress in response to the belief that there are many viable
environmental technologies available that are under utilized due to the
lack of credible third party performance testing. Southern Research
Institute (SRI) operates one of twelve ETV Centers, the Greenhouse Gas
Technology Verification Center (GHG Center), in partnership with the
EPA's Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division. The mission of the
GHG Center is to provide independent performance verification to
vendors and others that need reliable performance information on
greenhouse gas control technologies and emission monitoring devices.
The GHG Center is currently verifying technologies that reduce methane
emissions from oil and natural gas facilities. The Center is also
considering the verification of technologies that mitigate sulfur
hexafluoride (SF6) emissions from circuit breakers and switchgear at
elecrical substations, and microturbines that produce on-site
electricity. SRI has established an Executive Stakeholder Group to help
prioritize greenhouse gas technology areas for verification testing,
develop operational guidelines, and specify verification testing
strategies. The Executive Stakeholder group includes national and
international experts in the areas of climate change science, policy,
technology, and regulation, and also includes representatives from
industry trade organizations, technology vendors and buyers,
environmental technology finance groups, and government organizations.
The second meeting of the Executive Stakeholders Group is scheduled
for April 20, 1999, at the Hilton Crystal City at National Airport,
2399 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia. The meeting will
begin at 8:30am EST and end at 4:30pm EST, and is open to the public
(space is limited). If you are interested in attending, please contact
Linda Rothschild, SRI, by fax at 919 403-0284. WEB: U.S. EPA's
