Lewis 612/370-2109 This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commerical items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional formation included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. This solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Circular 97-06. The SIC is 4879. In an effort to help pork producers achieve pseudorabies free status and open foreign market opportunities USDA has developed a plan to accelerate the Pseudorabies Eradication Program. This program is intended to benefit the pork industry by removing pseudorabies infected and exposed swine from the market and reducing the risk of spread of pseudorabies to non-infected herds. The USDA is seeking proposals for the transportation of carcasses from the slaugther plant to the rendering plant. Nationally, the number of pigs to be depopulated may range from 0 to 1,900,000 depending on the level of producer participation in this program. The animals will be depopulated from approximately February to June of 1999. Infected herds are located in fourteen (14) states. The states are Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California, South Dakota, Texas, Massachusetts, and Louisiana. Offerors must complete and return Standard Form 1449 along with any attachments.
